Updates

Last Tuesday I went to the doctor to have another sonogram done so hopefully the doctor could get a good look at Karter's heart since he has not cooperated the past two times. As soon as the nurse began the ultrasound, the first thing she saw was his face. She switched to the 3-d and this is what Karter did:

put his arm and hand right over his face. Little stinker!
She continued the sonogram and told me everything looked great, but he is still big. He was in the 69th percentile. I asked her if they could have gotten my due date wrong and she said possibly, but usually they are pretty accurate.
On Thursday I went to see my doctor and he did his own sonogram. He said he was going to stick with what the other doctor had gotten for a weight because his calculations showed Karter to be even bigger. He asked me if I was scared of having a c-section. I told him no, I just would prefer not to. He said he didn't think I would have to, but wanted me to be prepared that it could happen.

He said if Karter continues to grow like he is and doesn't come on his own, he will probably induce labor at the end or March or beginning of April and not let me go to my due date of April 12th. This is when I thought my due date should have been anyways. I go back to have another sonogram in about 4 weeks so they can check his growth again and fluid levels. The past week or so my back has been hurting some during the afternoon after I have been up on my feet teaching all day. I have been sitting some and trying to teach which is really hard with 5 year olds. Once I get home from school and sit for a while, it stops hurting. Other than being tired, I am doing good.

Update on Cecil: Cecil went to the doctor last Tuesday and had the staples taken out of his foot. The doctor did some x-rays and said his foot was healing well. He goes back on Feb. 2 and will hopefully get his cast taken off and get a walking boot. He has gotten fluid drained off of his knee twice. I think his knee is getting better too. I know he is ready to be able to do something besides just sit at home.

A Busy Weekend

Friday night we went and rode Polar Express like we did last year. Cecil was not able to go last year because they were still stripping cotton. They got done this year so he was able to go. My mom also went with us. Keagan asked her when we first got our tickets if she would go with us incase his daddy couldn't go.

finally made it and Santa joined us

I guess I didn't take a picture of Keagan with his hot chocolate and cookie.

This is what Cecil thought of the train ride! Not really although it is not nearly as enjoyable for the adults as it is for the kids. He was sitting across the aisle from Keagan, my mom, and I so he did have some peace and quiet!
Saturday we went to the Catholic church in Idalou and had breakfast with Santa. When we walked in the building, Keagan ran up to Santa and hugged him. I wish I would have had my camera out. He has never been scared of Santa, but has never run up to one before like he did on Saturday.

Saturday night we had Christmas with Cecil's parents and siblings. I forgot to take my camera. On Sunday we had Christmas with Cecil's grandparents. Again I forgot my camera.
Monday Cecil had surgery on his left foot and had a scope done on his right knee. He had some cartilage damage on his knee they were able to fix. The doctor did reconstructive foot surgery on his left foot. Cecil didn't have an arch in his foot and his toes would curl under and not relax because of his head injury when he was in elementary. The doctor put 5 screws in his foot and cut and stretched the tendons in it. His foot should not turn inward anymore and his toes will not curl under. He will still have wear his brace, but hopefully will not be in constant pain like he was. We got home Tuesday afternoon and he is doing pretty good. The muscles in his left thigh and groin area will not relax and none of his regular medicine he takes for that is helping. We have called the doctor and hoping he will call in something else. He goes back to the doctor on Dec. 31st for them to take the splint off and put on a cast. He is not allowed to put any weight on his foot for 6 weeks. After six weeks he will get a walking boot. I am not sure how long he will be in that.
I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!
(I am sorry everything runs together. When I type, it is in paragraphs, but when I post it, it all runs together. It drives me crazy, but I don't know how to fix it)

Introducing......

Karter
Cecil says this picture makes him think of an African child you see on commercials about starving children.
Karter does not have a middle name yet. Cecil and I cannot agree on one. I like Ryan, but Cecil says he doesn't like that. Cecil's sister, my mom, and one of my aunts all suggested Ryan without me saying that I liked it. I know we still have time to decide, but we had no trouble at all coming up with Keagan's name. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
This is the best picture they could get of him on Tuesday. He kept putting his arm over his face. The lady did get a good look at his face once, but by the time she switched to the 3-d he had moved. He was moving all over the place and she had a very hard time getting all the measurements that she needed. She did say there is no doubt he is a boy!
They told us he weighs about 1 lb. 12 oz. which is in the 79th percentile. My doctor started talking about how he might be a big baby. I think, being the professional that I am, Karter has just caught up from my first sonogram. When the doctor measured him to get my due date, he measured about 10-12 days smaller than what I thought my due date would be. I think maybe he has just caught up and my due date is closer to the first of April instead of the 12th. Who knows? They still could not get a good look at his heart because he was moving all over the place. The doctor said he can tell there are 4 chambers and doesn't think anything is wrong, but I go back in four weeks for them to try again to get a better look.

Keagan and Landrie

When Keagan started going to his babysitter 2 1/2 years ago there was a little girl named Audrey that he became best buds with. Audrey is just 5 days younger than Keagan. Cheryl (his babysitter) would always say they were just like twins. Audrey's mom had a baby in June and decided to stay at home with her kids so Audrey doesn't go to Cherly's anymore. When school started this year a new little girl, Landrie, started staying at Cheryl's. Her mom teaches at the same school as me. Landrie is from December to May older than Keagan. They instantly hit it off and have become great friends.

On Thursday, the kids in my class made gingerbread houses. I was going to let Keagan make one after school and asked him if he wanted Landrie to make one with him. Of course his answer was yes. Keagan made a house last year but didn't seem to enjoy it near as much as he did this year.

Landrie got some icing on her shirt and Keagan was trying to help her get it off.

busy decorating

The finished houses!
After they finished and I got everything cleaned up, we took Landrie to her mom's room. Landrie told Keagan bye and gave him a hug. We went back to my room to get our stuff so we could leave. Keagan said he wanted to go tell Landrie bye. I told him he already told her bye and she gave him a hug. He then told me, "But I need to give her a kiss." It was so cute.
Baby update: I go to the doctor on Tuesday. I am really hoping they do the 3-d sonogram this time since they didn't do it last time. I will post pictures sometime next week if they do.

We are having a ....

BOY!!!
We went to the doctor yesterday morning and found out we are having another boy. Keagan was playing with one of his books and I asked him if he heard what the lady said. I told him he was getting a brother and he said, "But I want a sister."
We don't have any names picked out yet. Cecil and I both "knew" it was a girl so we have not discussed names because we had a girls name picked out from when we had Keagan. Hopefully we can decide on one soon.
The doctor did lots of measurements and said everything looked really good. I didn't have the 3-d sonogram done yesterday. I go back to the same doctor next month so the baby's heart will be bigger and they can get a better look at it and hope they will do the 3-d then.

It's a ........

well we still don't know. The baby was breech and the doctor could not tell. I have to call this afternoon and find out when they have scheduled me an appointment to have a 3-d sonogram. We are hoping it will be later this week or early next week.

Keagan did ask some funny comments and questions today: I was in the shower and he informed me before we went to the doctor we needed to go buy a carseat, diaper bag, diapers, and wipes. I told him we would buy those things but we didn't need to get them today because it is still a long time before the baby gets here. "How will the baby come out when it is big enough?" He has asked this before and Cecil tells him it comes out of my belly button. We were driving to get one of my tires fixed before going to the doctor this morning and he asked, "Is the baby eating food like you?" I told him the baby just gets part of the food that I eat. His reply was, "I guess you chew part of it and then the baby chews part of it."

He is too smart about somethings. Some questions he asks I really don't know how to answer him.

I will let you know when we find out what the baby is!

Better late than never!

I am finally getting around to posting Halloween pictures even though it has been two weeks. Last year Keagan was looking at a magazine I had gotten in the mail with costumes in it. He saw a UPS costume and said that was what he wanted to be. I told him I had already ordered his costume but maybe next year he could be that. Well the magazine came and the costume was still in there and he had not forgotten that was what he wanted to be. I am not sure why he wanted to be this. We do not know anyone who works for UPS. He has recognized the "brown truck" forever. Since it was what he wanted to be I ordered the costume for him.

Halloween week was busy for us. Keagan has been going to gymnastics since the summer. On Monday night everyone got to wear thier costumes to Ready Set Go.

ready to go in

The kids in each class were given an award. He was "accepting" his award here.

Keagan got the award for "awesome Halloween Handstands".
On Tuesday night I had a fall carnival at school. Keagan had a lot of fun playing the games and just playing in my room with his friend Landry who stays at the same babysitter as he does.
Friends Maryn and Jensyn

Keagan loved to play with the ducks. After the carnival, he and Landry were playing with the duck pond while I was cleaning up other things and they had water every where.

On Friday night my mom, Cecil, and I took Keagan to the Science Spectrum. We took him last year but it was so crowded we didn't even try to find a place to park. This year we got there right when it started. Keagan had a good time, but was more interested in playing with the regular Science Spectrum stuff than doing the games.

Baby update:
I am already about 19 weeks along. I can't believe I am almost half way done. We go to the doctor on Monday and will find out if it is a boy or girl as long as the baby cooperates. I am feeling pretty good other than just being tired. I am glad to be past the nasuea. I will post again on Monday and let you know what we are having.
