Shockey Stables

A couple of weeks ago Cecil's aunt and uncle kept Keagan and Karter for us. While they were there, Keagan rode Uncle Rusty's horse Boo. He had a lot of fun. Over the 4th of July weekend he also got to go to the Mesquite Rodeo when he went to visit my sister. Since then, at home he gets on his bouncing horse and says he is roping a cow. He throws a rope at Karter's bouncy seat! This past week he has been in Abilene for one last time before school starts. On Friday my mom and dad took him to ride horses at a place called Shockey Stables. He got to ride a horse all by himself. The horse was older and very tame. He had a lot of fun.

Pictures

Finally got some new pictures.

"Black-eyed pea" as Cecil has been calling him.
Last Tuesday night, Keagan and Cecil were racing to get in the shower. I am not exactly sure how it happened other than Cecil's crutch was involved. I didn't take this picture until Friday so the swelling had already gone down. His eye is looking better, it is turning more purple now.

Karter doing what he LOVES to do-standing up.

practicing tummy time ....

and rolling over. I forgot to put that in his 3 month post. He can roll from his tummy to his back. He doesn't do it consistently, but he can do it.

one of my favorite pictures

thumb and finger in his mouth. I am trying really hard for this not to become a habit. A couple of times I have pulled his fingers out of his mouth and put his pacifier in and then he somehow gets his fingers back in his mouth with his pacifier.

The other day I was trying to get Karter to sleep but had to use the restroom. I put him in his bouncy seat for just a minute and didn't buckle him in. When I came back from the bathroom this is how I found him. He is one strong little baby. I am glad he wasn't any longer or who knows where he might have ended up.

3 months

WARNING-If you only like to look at pictures, there are none in this post! The battery on my camera is dead and I can't get it to come out to charge it. I am already a week late with the post, so I will have to add the pictures later.

Karter turned 3 months last Thursday. Here are some things about my sweet baby boy:
-not sure how much he weighs but I am guessing almost 15 pounds, he doesn't go back to the
doctor until his 4 month check-up next month
-continues to eat about every 3 hours during the day
-still hates to burp
-is sleeping through the night!, usually goes to bed around 10:00 and has been sleeping until
about 6:00 most mornings
-he is napping good most days now that I am letting him sleep on his stomach
-still wearing Size 1 diapers although we only have 1 1/2 packages left from all the diapers we
got, so he will be moving up to Size 2 soon
-still wears 0-3 months clothes
-enjoys being in his swing, bouncy seat, and bumbo as long as he can see someone, he doesn't like
to be by himself
-LOVES to be talked to and to talk back
-smiles all the time
-tolerates tummy time for a very short period of time
-likes to suck on his hand-usually his pointer finger and thumb if he doesn't have his pacifier, we
quickly pull the hand out of his mouth and stick the paci in because we can eventually take the
paci away easier than his hand
-has out grown colic!, there are some nights when he is fussy, but it is just a normal fussy baby, I
am so glad to be past that

Hopefully I can get the battery out of my camera and post some pictures soon.

Swimming Lessons

Last week Keagan took swim lessons. My main goal I wanted him to get out of the lessons was to get over his fear of water. Keagan likes to go swimming but doesn't like to get water in his face and go under the water. I have to admit, he gets it honestly from me. This summer he has done a lot better with the water. He took lessons from a guy named Ryan. He was really good with him. Cecil was very disappointed he didn't learn to swim, but he is definetly not as scared of the water as he was. On Friday I stayed so Keagan could show me what he had learned. He knows the technique of using his arms and kicking his legs but he still doesn't like to go under the water.

walking around in the water

he was suppose to be showing me how to kick his legs and use his arms, but it is hard to tell that in the picture

going down the slide.
He would go down the slide before but always wanted his swim ring on.
Sunday, Cecil and Keagan went swimming before we had Bible study. Keagan went down the slide several times with no floatie. When they were in the shallow end, Cecil would throw Keagan and make him go under the water and then Keagan would stand up. He was getting even better about having water in his face.
my sweet boys in thier red, white, and blue
Keagan is leaving today with my mom to go to Abilene and then tomorrow them and my dad are going to see my sister and Joey. They are also going to take Keagan to Six Flags. I hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th of July.

2 month update

Karter turned 2 months last Tuesday. I was waiting to do an update until I took him to his two month check-up. I took him a week late because I had VBS last week. Here are somethings about my 2-month old boy:
-weighs 13.2 pounds (73rd %) and is 24 inches long (76%)
-eats every 3 hours during the day
-has been going about 6 hours at night (hope I am not cursing myself!)
-sleeps well at night, but is not a good napper, I think I am going to start putting him on his
stomach because he sleeps really well that way even if the doctor says to put them on their
back
-still wears Size 1 diapers
-wears 0-3 month clothes
-his colic is much better, we have to be sure we have Gripe Water on hand
-smiles and coos all the time
-likes for me to touch him on the nose and make "buzz"sound, the other night he actually
laughed out loud when I did it
-absolutely hates to be burped, when I burp him half way through him eating he gets so mad,
the fastest way to get him to burp is to sit him on my leg and pat his back but he gets so mad
and stiffens out his legs and stands up which makes it very hard to burp him
-he is a very strong baby, holds his head up and loves to stand and sit up
-likes to swing, sit in boucy seat, and Bumbo seat

The day Karter turned 2 months old he sat in his Bumbo for the first time. Keagan didn't have one of these so I wasn't really sure when he was "suppose" to sit in it. I decided he can hold his head up very well, so I thought we would try it. Now if I can just keep Keagan out of it!

such a big boy

The day after he got 3 shots. The day he got them he slept all day. He would wake up to eat and then go right back to sleep.

In the mornings after he wakes up and eats, he likes to lay on our bed and look out the window. He lays there and laughs and talks to the window!

Sweet sleeping baby. I believe this is how he will be sleeping from now on.

VBS

This week we had vacation Bible school at church. We were on a "High Seas Expedition" all week. We had 33 4 & 5 year olds on Monday and the rest of the week we had 35 or 36 each day. That is the most kids in this age group we have ever had. This year was Keagan's first year to get to go to vbs. I was worried about how he would do because he would be in the 4 and 5 year old group that I was in charge of. I talked to about what he would get to do each day and he seemed really excited. On Monday he did great when we went to the sanctuary and sang. Then we went back to our room for the Bible story. After the story we divided into three groups. Keagan's group went with me first to Chadder's Theatre. When it was time for his group to go to games, he started to cry and say he wanted to stay with me. Mrs. Kinann got him and he was fine. I was not worried too much about him wanting to stay with me the whole time, I was more worried about how he would behave. The rest of the week he did very well-he just had to know where I was and what I was doing. I didn't get very many pictures. I couldn't leave my group of kids and take his picture doing different things, but I got a few. As you look at the pictures, see if you see notice anything common in most of the pictures???

On Thursday, the kids made a picture frame. I took all of their pictures and printed them.

Keagan and Audrey in "big church" getting ready to sing.

Keagan didn't get too much into singing and dancing. He like to watch the video. He picked up more of the songs than I thought. When he doesn't think anyone is listening or watching he would sing along.

Getting a tattoo from Mrs. Vickie.

Waiting to play a game.
Did you notice a little girl in almost every picture with Keagan? That is Audrey. She use to stay at Mrs. Cheryl's with Keagan and they were best buddies. Monday morning I was looking at the list of names of the kids who had pre-registered and saw her name. Keagan was so excited when she got there. I think Audrey had mutual feelings. Keagan could not keep his hands off of her. When we would have the Bible story, he would sit beside her and put his arm around her. When we went each day to sing in the sanctuary, he had to make sure he was sitting by her. One day at snack, Audrey had to use the restroom, so after she got up Keagan spread out his legs so no one would sit in her spot. Wednesday-Friday her cousin was there. On Wednesday during the Bible story Keagan of course had his arm on Audrey and her cousin scooted over by them and was trying to put his arm around her too. Keagan didn't like that! Mrs. Kinann had to tell Keagan he has to share Audrey. They were both very cute. I was very glad she was there and they got to play with each other again. I am hoping Audrey will go to pre-k and they will get to be in the same class.

Keagan's Award

Thursday was Keagan's last day of gymnastics at Ready Set Go for the spring. The parents were allowed to go out in the gym and watch and take pictures. My mom was here, so she went out and watched and took pictures of him. I stayed in the lobby and took care of Karter. At the end of the class each of the kids were given and award. Keagan got an award for having the best "seat drop, doggie drop, tummy". I told my mom his teacher was just being nice! When he is jumping on the trampoline he is wild. He doesn't stay in one spot and work on the skill she is trying to teach. He is usually bouncing from one end of the trampoline to the other. I do not expect him to be a fabulous tumbler, so as long as he is having fun that is all that matters. He started his summer classes on Tuesday. He was the only boy in his class on Tuesday. Hopefully another boy will join the class soon.

showing off his award with his award with a fake smile- I told him we couldn't go to Chick-Fil-A until he let me take his picture.
We have a very busy weekend and next week is VBS. This will be Keagan's first year to be old enough to go. He will be in the class I am working with. I am not sure if that will be a good thing or not. We will see I guess.
